The word apocalypse means both annihilation and revelation. APOCALYPSE is a studio working with design as a tool to push sustainable development. Our design is mainly made by materials with a history and we often cross into the fields of chemistry and technology. APOCALYPSE aim to change attitudes, patterns of behavior and ways of thinking. At the Furniture Fair in Stockholm 2009, APOCALYPSE presents: The lower limit, the revelation, the cycles and the every day life.

The lower limit |

The lower limit uses a few of the 9 million tires that is disposed in Sweden every year, or some of the 360 million tires consumed yearly in the EU. As a floor, the tires get a new life. The material is made by cutting the tires into smaller pieces, separating the rubber from the textile and the steel. Then it is ground into a powder which is mixed with recycled plastic. The binding is reinforced with a patented molecule. More than 95 % of the content is made from recycled materials and it can be recycled over and over. Designed with inspiration from the classical herringbone pattern the flooring becomes a modern rubber parquet. With two different textures provides a lot of different pattern opportunities. |

The revelation |

The revelation is not created with stones cut in an Asian stone cutting district nor with fabulous crystals from central Europe. The revelation is cultivated in Malmö. The minerals are arranged in an orderly repeating pattern.
The process of forming a crystalline structure from a fluid or from materials dissolved in the fluid, creates amazing crystals without the need of electricity or labor. Our substance is a harmless type of salt, good for composting and even eating if you need to induce bowel movement.
The mineral salt is a bi-product from a local chemical industry. The material has been given new a new life in the shape of a modern crystal chandelier. Inspired of the clairvoyants of Saida and the magicians box the revelation seems to float.

The life cycles |

The life cycles of the material things can be labeled and should be given attention. These cycles can be described as Past, Present and Future. APOCALYPSE loves the idea of recycling since it is smart and good for the environment. This spring we will launch the labeling system Past Present Future, PPF. Second-hand consumption, inherited or found objects and reused materials are free to be labeled with PPF. The three arrows symbolize the life of the object - past, present and future. We want people to feel pride and power in the act of reusing since it is such an intelligent form of consumption. A way of showing this power is by labeling the second-hand object with the symbol of PPF.

The everyday life |

The everyday life is represented by an everyday product, The Soap, made from a material with a history, reused cooking oil from falafel kitchens in Malmö. The Soap is redefining the concept of luxury and questioning animal and other dubious cosmetic ingredients. After 48 hours of use in the restaurant the oil is collected by bike. A biochemist has been consulted to find the ultimate recipe and method which finally resulted in a soap with very few ingredients. The Soap Original is neither perfumed nor coloured and has a light old-fashioned soap scent thanks to the saponification process. The Soap Perfume is scented with our own organic perfume Ultra Fresh Bakery Bouquet. This spring APOCALYPSE will launch the liquid version of The Soap.
